Jacob Tobey has been removed as the San Antonio Spurs' play-by-play announcer following social media accusations of infidelity. The allegations surfaced earlier this week when an Instagram Story, reportedly posted from Tobey's account, accused him of cheating with Loren Waters, the sister of Spurs guard Lindy Waters III.
The post stated, "This is my girlfriend of six years. But I cheated on her with Loren Waters. So feel free to continue following me if you really think I’m a good guy because I’m not. :)"
This message was allegedly followed by another post featuring what appeared to be photo booth images of Tobey and Waters kissing, with the caption "Me and the new girl." Fans speculated that Tobey's girlfriend, who may have had access to his account, posted the accusations. Tobey's social media accounts have since been made private.
Tobey had recently signed a multi-year contract extension in June to continue in his role. Prior to joining the Spurs, he worked as a play-by-play announcer for various outlets, including Fox Sports and the Pac-12 Network. Tobey also previously performed the national anthem at Spurs games.
