Detroit Lions linebacker Jack Campbell released a statement Wednesday detailing his recovery progress after a neck injury sustained during a game against the Minnesota Vikings. Campbell announced that he has full range of motion in his lower body and is continuing to regain movement in his upper body.
"I’m incredibly encouraged by the progress I’ve made in such a short period of time," Campbell stated. "I have full movement in my lower body, and I’m continuing to make progress with movement in my upper body. I know there’s still work ahead, but I remain very optimistic. I’m taking things one day at a time, staying positive, and focusing on getting better."
The injury occurred in the second half of the game when Campbell attempted to tackle Vikings tight end T.J. Hockenson. The impact resulted in Campbell going limp on the field, leading to him being carted off and hospitalized. Previously, the Lions had provided limited updates on his condition.
Campbell expressed gratitude for the support he has received from his family, teammates, coaches, and the medical professionals. "My family and I want to sincerely thank everyone for the overwhelming amount of love, prayers, and support we’ve received over the past few days," he said. "It means more to us than words can express."
He specifically thanked the athletic trainers and medical personnel who responded to him on the field, as well as the medical teams at Henry Ford Hospital and the Detroit Lions. "They’ve been amazing to me and my family throughout this process, and I’m truly grateful for everything they’ve done," Campbell added.
Campbell, 26, also shared his faith, stating, "My faith in God has never been stronger. I know He has a plan for me, and I trust in that plan."
He concluded his statement by emphasizing his commitment to recovery with a resilient mindset, referencing the toughness of Detroit. "One thing I’ve learned about Detroit is that this city is built on toughness, resilience, and grit. That’s exactly how I’m going to approach this challenge."
