J.T. Poston experienced a significant scoring setback during the final round of the Travelers Championship at TPC River Highlands, where he recorded a septuple bogey on the 13th hole. The unusual sequence of events unfolded after Poston's drive into the fairway.

His second shot landed in a bunker to the right of the green. From the bunker, his subsequent shot fell short of the green, leaving him 59 feet from the hole. The fourth shot rolled over the green and into the water, forcing a penalty drop. Poston's next attempt with a sand wedge also came up short, returning to the water and requiring another penalty drop. He described the conditions as being into the grain, making it difficult to escape the bunker effectively.

Despite further attempts, Poston was unable to avoid the water on a third occasion, necessitating an additional drop. It took him 10 shots to finally reach the green. After missing a subsequent putt on his 11th shot, he sank an 8-inch putt for a total of 12 strokes on the par-5 hole.

Poston concluded the round with a 76, placing him 69th in the 72-player field. He later commented that while he felt he could execute the necessary shots, the challenging lie in the bunker made it difficult. He acknowledged that in hindsight, a simpler approach might have been more prudent, but he was focused on executing the required recovery shots from his position within the tournament standings.
