Inter Milan has finalized the signing of England full-back Djed Spence from Tottenham, with the player agreeing to a five-year contract.
The Serie A club is reportedly paying a transfer fee of approximately 30 million euros (£25.6 million) for the 26-year-old defender. Spence becomes the second English player to join Inter this summer, following John Stones, who arrived after his contract with Manchester City expired.
Spence had previously indicated the transfer was imminent by posting a farewell message to Tottenham supporters on social media. In his message, he reflected on his time at the club, stating, "A special chapter comes to an end, It's been some journey, with plenty of memories, moments and experiences that I'll carry with me for forever, especially that night in Bilbao. Thanks to all the staff members who've helped me along the way, the players who've become family and most importantly thank you to the fans. Time for a new chapter now, but Spurs will always have a place in my heart."
During the 2025-26 season, Spence made 44 appearances for Tottenham across all competitions. However, with the club signing first-choice right-back Pedro Porro to a new deal in June and bringing in left-back Andy Robertson from Liverpool, Spence's role was subject to change. Tottenham manager Roberto de Zerbi had expressed a desire in July to keep Spence at the club.
Spence initially joined Spurs from Middlesbrough in 2022 for a fee of £12.5 million. During his tenure in North London, he made 85 appearances and was part of the team that won the 2024-25 Europa League title. This move to Inter Milan marks Spence's second stint in Italy, having previously spent six months on loan at Genoa in 2024.
