Hyrox Athlete Forfeits Win After Continuing Race While Soiled

Hyrox athlete Joanna Wietrzyk has forfeited her win at the recent competition in Beijing after facing backlash for continuing the race after soiling herself.

In a social media post, Wietrzyk stated, "I want to offer my sincere apology to the people of China, my fellow competitors, the spectators and the HYROX organizers for what happened during the race in Beijing." She explained that she was "completely fit and healthy" at the start of the event and had "no reason" to anticipate becoming ill.

Wietrzyk expressed regret over her decision to remain on the track, admitting, "I recognize that I should have made a different choice. I take responsibility for my decision to continue and am deeply sorry for the discomfort and disruption it caused."

Hyrox, the fitness competition organizer, indicated that it has "clear biocontaminant and medical procedures in place." The organization stated that an "unforeseen situation arose" during the race, leading to protocols becoming unclear and creating "ambiguity in how they were applied and understood." In response to the incident, Hyrox's Fürste committed to "improving event processes" to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
