Alfie Hewett and Gordon Reid have secured their seventh Wimbledon men's wheelchair doubles title as a partnership, overcoming Gustavo Fernandez and Tokito Oda in a hard-fought final. The British duo battled back from a set down on Court One to win 2-6, 6-1, 6-2.
Fernandez and Oda initially dominated the first set, breaking Hewett and Reid in all four of their service games. However, the defending champions responded emphatically, winning nine of the next ten games. This momentum shift propelled Hewett and Reid to a 3-0 lead in the deciding set, ultimately clinching their 25th Grand Slam doubles title together.
The victory adds to Hewett and Reid's recent success, following their French Open win in June. Their opponents, Fernandez and Oda, are the current holders of the US Open and Australian Open titles.
Hewett will compete again on Sunday in the men's singles final, facing Oda. Oda enters the singles final as the top seed and defending champion, aiming for his third Wimbledon singles crown. Hewett, the second seed, is seeking to add to his 2024 singles title at the event.
