English gymnast Gabriel Langton has been cleared of serious injury following a distressing fall during the Commonwealth Games on Friday. The incident caused a lengthy halt to proceedings, and Langton was taken from the arena on a stretcher.
Despite the injury to Langton, his teammates went on to secure a silver medal in the competition, finishing behind Canada. Langton was a late addition to the England team, replacing the injured Max Whitlock, a six-time Olympic medalist.
Following the event, teammate Luke Whitehouse described the impact of such incidents. "When something like that happens, you've just got to forget about it and reset," Whitehouse stated. "I just had to focus on my routine one skill at a time."
Canada's Felix Dolci also commented on the incident, acknowledging the inherent risks in the sport. "It's terrible but it goes to show that gymnastics is a very, very difficult and complicated sport. It's dangerous you know sometimes," Dolci said. "All our thoughts go to Gabriel and the team."
