Good Good Golf has withdrawn its title sponsorship of a PGA Tour event scheduled for November in Austin, Texas, the PGA Tour announced. The decision comes amid continuing repercussions from a driver advertisement that drew widespread criticism.
The PGA Tour confirmed it was informed of Good Good Golf's decision to step away and stated that the tournament will proceed as planned. The Tour indicated it would provide further updates on sponsorship plans at a later date. "We agree with their decision to use this time to focus on their organization and the work ahead," the PGA Tour said in a statement. "The PGA Tour believes in golf’s ability to bring people together and create a welcoming environment for all."
Good Good Golf, in its own statement, attributed the withdrawal to "thoughtful discussion with the PGA Tour and careful reflection." The brand acknowledged a need for internal work, stating, "our focus right now is on our team, our culture and ensuring we learn from this situation." The statement also expressed gratitude for the relationship with the PGA Tour and a hope for future collaboration.
The controversy originated from an advertisement featuring Good Good Golf co-founder Garrett Clark. In the ad, Clark appeared to shove fellow content creator Alexis Miestowski before menacingly addressing the camera about his new driver. Good Good Golf later explained the ad was intended as a parody of a scene from the movie "Obsession."
Following the ad's release, both Good Good Golf and Callaway, which had featured the ad in promotions for a driver collaboration, issued apologies and removed the advertisement. Retailers including Dick’s Sporting Goods, Golf Galaxy, Target, and the PGA Tour Superstore reportedly removed Good Good Golf products from their online stores. Additionally, the reality show "Big Break x Good Good," which had already postponed its first episode, will not be aired, according to Golf Channel.
