The San Francisco Giants are reportedly close to acquiring infielder Marcelo Mayer from the Boston Red Sox, according to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic. The potential trade would send reliever Erik Miller to Boston. Mayer, a highly touted prospect, has faced challenges in Boston this season. He is currently hitting .220 with a .594 OPS in 205 at-bats. Mayer was placed on the 10-day injured list in late June due to a bone stress reaction in his left ulna and has not yet returned to play. Fans will be watching closely to see if this deal is finalized before the 3 p.m. trade deadline.
