The New York Giants are already experiencing the benefits of head coach John Harbaugh's rigorous training camp, as evidenced by their performance during joint practices with the Miami Dolphins amid oppressive heat and humidity.
Players have voiced that the demanding nature of their training, which includes extended on-field sessions and difficult conditioning, has directly prepared them to withstand the harsh South Florida weather. "For sure. I ain’t gonna lie, if we didn’t practice as hard as we do, I don’t know if we would have made it through this heat," said outside linebacker Brian Burns. "And the level of competition that we practiced with. I feel like us practicing as hard as we do definitely prepared us for all of this."
Harbaugh noted that his team remained strong and even improved throughout the practice sessions. "I think our guys are in great shape and they had no problem with it,’’ he said. ‘’Our guys — we were strong at the end of practice. We were getting stronger through the practice. I saw that, really, from every single player on the field.”
Quarterback Jaxson Dart also commented on the positive impact of practicing against a different team. "It definitely brings a little bit of freshness because you’re not just playing against the same guys every day,’’ Dart said. "And I think that it definitely helps your team make the right steps to what you want to be."
Left tackle Andrew Thomas echoed the sentiment, describing the daily practices as intense. “Definitely. I mean, every time we practice, it’s almost two and a half hours,’’ Thomas said. “We’re getting after it. Harbaugh runs a tough training camp.”
Harbaugh's demanding approach has historically shaped his coaching reputation. While there were instances in previous years with the Baltimore Ravens where his training methods led to compliance issues, the current Giants team appears to be operating within allowed parameters. The focus is on immediate readiness, with the season opener against the Dallas Cowboys on Sept. 13 approaching. "I definitely think we’re ready for Week 1,” Burns said, though acknowledging that Harbaugh likely sees room for further improvement.
