New York Jets quarterback Geno Smith was cited for speeding and for not having his driver's license during a traffic stop in Davie, Florida, on July 6. This marks the third interaction Smith has had with the Davie Police Department this offseason.
The incident was recorded by police bodycam, showing Smith driving a 2025 Aston Martin. The officer informed Smith he was traveling at 70 mph in a 45-mph zone. When asked for his license and registration, Smith stated he did not have them with him, explaining they were at his home and that the vehicle belonged to a friend.
Smith received tickets for unlawful speed and for not having his license present. The officer advised him to always carry his physical ID, to which Smith responded, "My bad."
This traffic stop is the latest in a series of encounters with law enforcement for Smith this offseason. In April, he was involved in an incident regarding improper tags on a Rolls Royce. Later, in June, police were called to his home after a woman made allegations on Instagram. Reports indicated that no arrests were made, and the investigation into that matter has been closed without charges.
Smith, who is preparing for his 13th NFL season and fifth with the Jets, previously played for the Las Vegas Raiders and had a career resurgence with the Seattle Seahawks, earning a Pro Bowl selection in 2022. His early NFL career included a turbulent four years with the Jets, during which he suffered a broken jaw in a locker room altercation in 2015.
