During a recent SNY broadcast, Gary Cohen playfully teased his broadcast partner Keith Hernandez after Hernandez had shared his feelings about his family's lineage coming to an end. The moment occurred during the fourth inning of the Mets' 6-2 victory over the Kansas City Royals on Wednesday.

SNY aired a segment featuring a montage of Little League players from the tri-state area. Cohen seized the opportunity to make a lighthearted remark about Hernandez's earlier comments. "Some little leaguers," Cohen said on air. "None of whom are Keith’s grandkids. Sorry, Keith. I couldn’t help myself." Hernandez responded with a chuckle, "That’s okay. Some people can’t take a joke."

Earlier, on Tuesday night, Hernandez had expressed sadness and frustration that his family line would not continue. "My two (kids) are in their 40s, they’re not going to have kids," Hernandez explained. "I won’t go into one of them. That’s not gonna happen. So, the (family) line is burnt. It’s burnt. It just burned down."

Hernandez, who has two adopted daughters and two biological daughters, noted that his biological daughters do not have children and he does not anticipate they will. He also mentioned his brother Gary has two children who are unlikely to have children themselves. "There’s no passing down. We’re done. My brother and I are done, we’re done," Hernandez said. Hernandez has been a fixture on SNY broadcasts since 2006, earning three Emmy awards over his 20-year career. He works alongside Cohen and Ron Darling, forming a well-regarded broadcast team known for its analysis, charisma, and humor.
