Alejandro Garnacho was forced off the field with an injury in his second appearance for Aston Villa, just months after completing a loan move from Chelsea. The forward sustained what was understood to be a facial injury during Villa's pre-season friendly against BG Pathum in Thailand on Tuesday.
Garnacho, who joined Villa Park on a year-long loan, was substituted in the first half after being fouled by Ryan Edwards. He received medical attention on the pitch before leaving the game.
This setback comes after Garnacho made his debut for Villa against the Indonesia All Stars last week. The team went on to win the match against BG Pathum 3-1, but captain John McGinn also suffered a knee injury during the game. Goals for Aston Villa were scored by Emi Buendia, Victor Lindelof, and Boubacar Kamara.
The 22-year-old winger previously played 43 matches across all competitions for Chelsea last season, scoring eight goals and providing three assists. He featured in 24 Premier League matches, netting one goal. Garnacho had been a target for Villa prior to his transfer to Chelsea last summer.
Manager Unai Emery is reportedly a supporter of Garnacho and is understood to have played a significant role in facilitating the loan move. Villa's pre-season schedule includes further friendlies against Borussia Monchengladbach and Bayern Munich before their Premier League season begins away at Brighton. They are also set to face Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain in the Super Cup following their Europa League victory.
