France's Lois Boisson engaged in a visible display of frustration following her first-round elimination from the U.S. Open, smashing multiple rackets on the court. The incident occurred moments after American Emma Navarro secured a three-set victory.
While Navarro celebrated her win, Boisson was observed repeatedly striking her rackets against the ground before discarding them. The outburst began immediately after Boisson hit the ball into the net, conceding the match point to Navarro.
After shaking hands with Navarro and the chair umpire, Boisson continued her racket destruction on the court. Ball girls later retrieved the damaged equipment.
The match itself was affected by weather delays. The contest, which began on Sunday, was postponed due to rain in the New York metropolitan area, forcing play to move to Monday. Navarro had held a 7-6(6), 4-2 lead when play resumed, but Boisson managed to win the second set.
Navarro ultimately triumphed with a score of 7-6(6), 6-7(1), 6-3, advancing to the second round of the tournament held in Flushing Meadows. This win marks a notable moment for Navarro, who recently shared that she had the opportunity to train with her tennis idol, Serena Williams, describing the experience as "surreal."
Navarro is scheduled to play the winner of the match between Catherine McNally and Anouk Koevermans in the next round.
