Manchester City midfielder Phil Foden attended Wimbledon on Saturday, appearing in the Royal Box alongside former England manager Gareth Southgate. Foden was not selected for the current World Cup squad by manager Thomas Tuchel following an inconsistent season for his club, during which he scored seven league goals.

Foden, accompanied by his partner Rebecca Cooke, was present for the opening match on Centre Court between Iga Swiatek and Alexandra Eala. Southgate, who has been keeping a low profile during the World Cup to avoid distracting the current squad, also wore a cream suit with a dark tie.

This appearance comes after Foden previously expressed frustration with his positioning under Southgate during Euro 2024, stating he struggled to influence the game from a left-sided role and felt the team did not perform to its potential. He had noted that after being named the Premier League's best player and featuring in a central midfield role the previous season, the position on the wing was difficult to adapt to.

Also in attendance in the Royal Box were Dutch footballer Marco van Basten and Lionesses players Michelle Agyemang, Ella Toone, and Alex Greenwood.
