FIFA has handed down significant bans to two Argentine players for their involvement in a brawl that occurred after the World Cup final loss to Spain. Leandro Paredes has been suspended for 10 matches and fined $90,000, while Nahuel Molina will serve a seven-match ban and also faces a $90,000 fine.
These disciplinary actions stem from violent conduct during an incident that took place last month following the team's defeat in the World Cup final. The international governing body for football announced the penalties in a statement on Friday.
Additionally, teammate Thiago Almada has received a one-match ban and a $30,000 fine. The same sanctions were applied to Spanish player Gavi for his conduct during the incident. Argentina's assistant coach, Roberto Ayala, also received a three-match ban and a $30,000 fine.
The bans represent historic suspensions for misconduct following a World Cup final.
