England's national football team encountered a chorus of boos and chants from local supporters as they arrived at their Mexico City hotel on Friday. The team is in the city to prepare for their upcoming World Cup last-16 game against co-hosts Mexico.
Security has been increased around the team's accommodation following a complaint lodged by Ecuador, who previously stayed at the same hotel. Ecuador reported that their players were deliberately kept awake by local fans using noise-making devices, including loudspeakers and horns, late at night. Mexico went on to defeat Ecuador 2-0 in their last-32 match.
While England had aimed to keep their hotel location confidential, concerns arose about a potential security leak. Upon the team's arrival, hundreds of locals gathered outside the hotel, with some chanting "Mexico" and others booing. Members of Mexico's National Guard were present to manage the entrance, and police officers in riot gear stood near barriers along the road.
The match between England and Mexico is scheduled for Sunday, with kick-off at 01:00 BST on Monday. The game will be broadcast live on BBC One and iPlayer.
