England players will be cautioned against jumping over advertising hoardings following a freak injury to midfielder Jordan Henderson during celebrations of their World Cup victory over Mexico. Henderson, 36, landed awkwardly on his arm while attempting to hurdle the hoardings after the 3-2 win at the Azteca Stadium.
The injury is expected to require surgery and casts significant doubt on his participation for the remainder of the tournament. Henderson was taken from the field on a stretcher and remained in a Mexico City hospital on Sunday evening. He did not travel with the squad to their base in Kansas City.
Manager Thomas Tuchel stated that he intends to instruct his players to avoid such celebratory actions. "Jordan just fell over and injured his wrist," Tuchel told BBC One. "It looks really bad. It's a quite serious injury and it doesn't fit to the evening that Jordan is now not with us. The doctor told me he is in hospital."
