Duncan Scott of Scotland won a gold medal in swimming on the first full day of competition at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. The victory came on home soil, with Scott competing at Tollcross, the same venue where he won his first Commonwealth medal 12 years prior.

Scott acknowledged feeling the weight of expectation as he aimed to give the Scottish team and the home crowd a strong start to the Games. "I don't usually feel the expectation, but that one I probably did," he told BBC Sport Scotland. "Simply because it's day one and I love representing Scotland and you want to try and get the whole team off to a good start."

He expressed a desire to create positive momentum for the rest of the week's events. "I think there was a bigger picture of trying to get good momentum for the crowd involvement for the rest of the week, and the team as well. So I felt that expectation, but it's nothing I couldn't deal with."

Scott's performance was described as being largely unfazed, even managing the pressure of post-race drug testing. The Alloa native has now secured his 14th Commonwealth medal across his fourth Games appearance. He is scheduled to have the weekend off from competition.
