Sivan and Patrick Dumont have officially assumed controlling ownership of the Dallas Mavericks, acquiring Miriam Adelson's shares in October and bringing their total ownership stake to 69%. This transition marks a significant shift in the franchise's leadership, as reported by ESPN.
Patrick Dumont expressed the family's long-term commitment to Dallas, stating, "The Dumont family is really committed to building what we hope is the best arena in the NBA, a really significant investment in the city that will help create the new 40-year home for the Dallas Mavericks, a great experience for our fans and inspire our team to win championships." The family plans to invest in a new arena at the Valley View Mall, expected to be ready for the 2031-32 NBA season, replacing the American Airlines Center which has housed the team since 2001. Renovations are also underway for the team's practice facility and business offices.
Miriam Adelson, along with her daughter Sivan and son-in-law Patrick, initially purchased the majority share from Mark Cuban in December 2023. While Adelson had minimal involvement in the franchise's operations, Cuban retains a 27% share. Under the terms of the 2023 sale, the Dumonts hold an option to purchase an additional 20% from Cuban at the original $3.5 billion valuation, a move Patrick Dumont indicated they intend to pursue over time.
Dumont acknowledged Cuban's current frustration but emphasized their goal to make Mavericks fans proud and win championships. He also addressed recent franchise changes, including the approval of former general manager Nico Harrison's decision to trade Luka Doncic to the Lakers in February 2025. Following Harrison's dismissal, former Raptors executive Masai Ujiri now leads basketball operations and has been granted broad authority to implement changes, a move Dumont supports, stating, "This is Masai Ujiri’s team. He’s got a ring. He knows what he’s doing."
The Mavericks currently hold a 4-3 record and are aiming for a playoff appearance after finishing last season with a 26-56 record. The team is focusing on building around reigning Rookie of the Year, Cooper Flagg.
