Los Angeles Dodgers reliever Edgardo Henriquez recorded the fastest strikeout pitch in team history on Aug. 29, 2026, throwing a 103.6 mph sinker that froze Detroit Tigers catcher Dillon Dingler. Statcast data confirmed the pitch's velocity and spin rate of 2,439 rpm.
The heat of Henriquez's pitch was so extreme that Dingler challenged the called strike, but the call stood. The television broadcaster announced the pitch as a 104 mph sinker as it caught the edge of the strike zone.
This moment marked a new franchise milestone, as MLB pitch-tracking data, available since 2008, indicated no previous Dodgers pitcher had thrown a strikeout pitch with higher velocity. The record-setting performance occurred during a 2-1 loss for the Dodgers.
Henriquez, 24, has been a consistent source of high-velocity pitches for the Dodgers. He already held records for 14 of the team's 16 fastest recorded strikeout pitches and 22 of the team's fastest pitches overall. His 103.6 mph sinker on Saturday tied a career-high velocity he first achieved on June 2 against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
According to Baseball Savant, Henriquez's sinker averages 100.8 mph this season, with his four-seam fastball averaging 100.5 mph. This consistency at triple-digit speeds has become a hallmark of his pitching style. Last August, he matched Jonathan Broxton's Dodgers-era tracking record with a 103.3 mph four-seam fastball, a mark he has now surpassed.
The Dodgers were in Detroit for a three-game series against the Tigers, with the final game scheduled for Sunday afternoon.
