Former NFL star Dez Bryant has hired a prominent law firm to represent him after receiving a misdemeanor charge of assault by contact following a parking lot altercation in October. Bryant has retained Levi McCathern's law firm, according to a Southlake Municipal Court official.
The incident occurred when Bryant, who played wide receiver for the Dallas Cowboys, was involved in an argument with two men he accused of driving recklessly. Bryant stated that one of the men threatened to shoot him before allegedly beginning to record him on his phone. Bryant said he then knocked the phone out of the man's hand.
According to a statement from the Southlake Police Department, officers responded to a reported fight in progress in a retail parking lot, with multiple callers reporting a possible weapon. Officers drew their firearms as a precaution upon arrival. Several individuals were detained for investigation, but no firearms were recovered. The statement also said the altercation began as a traffic incident where Bryant reported being cut off by another motorist. After both parties entered the parking lot and an argument ensued, Bryant was issued a citation for assault by contact, a Class C misdemeanor, and released at the scene.
McCathern's firm is also representing Los Angeles Rams star Puka Nacua in a separate civil case.
