The Detroit Lions announced Monday that linebacker Jack Campbell is continuing his recovery in a local hospital following a serious injury sustained during Sunday's game against the Minnesota Vikings.
Campbell was left motionless on the field after a hit while attempting to tackle Vikings tight end T.J. Hockenson. He was placed on a backboard and transported to the hospital with his family present. The team had not provided an update until Monday afternoon.
"Jack Campbell continues to rest and recover at a local hospital," the Lions stated via X. "Preliminary indications are positive and out of respect for Jack and his family we will not share further information at this time."
Players from both teams knelt in solidarity as Campbell was attended to by medical staff. Lions defensive captain Aidan Hutchinson appeared visibly distressed and later gave a tearful speech to his teammates before the game resumed.
Emotional footage released by the Lions showed head coach Dan Campbell leading the team in a prayer for the injured linebacker in the locker room after the game. Quarterback Jared Goff also addressed the team, urging them to stick together.
Campbell, a first-round pick in 2023, was an All-Pro selection last season. He recorded over 150 tackles, at least five sacks, and three forced fumbles, becoming the first NFL player in seven years to achieve that statistical feat. He signed a four-year contract extension with the Lions in May, running through the 2030 season. Campbell and his wife welcomed their first child in February.
