Veteran wide receiver Darius Slayton has parted ways with the New York Giants after seven seasons, expressing his gratitude for his time with the organization and looking forward to his next opportunity. The Giants organization cut Slayton days before their season opener on "Sunday Night Football."

"Grateful for my time in NY. 7 years a Giant nothing but love for one of the most prestigious organizations in the NFL," Slayton posted on X Monday evening. "Excited to see what’s next."

Slayton's departure follows speculation about his roster spot after the Giants' final preseason game. He was originally selected by the Giants in the fifth round of the 2019 NFL Draft.

During his tenure with the Giants, Slayton recorded 296 receptions for 4,435 receiving yards and 22 touchdowns. He had described himself as "just another playmaker" for the team's receiving corps.

Reports indicate that Slayton is already attracting attention from other teams. NFL insider Josina Anderson reported that three teams have initiated preliminary discussions with the wide receiver. While the specific teams were not named, the Colts were suggested as a team to watch due to the existing relationship between Slayton and quarterback Daniel Jones.

The Giants' decision to release Slayton, their longest-tenured player, is expected to save the team approximately $3 million in cap space for the current year. Efforts to trade Slayton prior to his release did not materialize.
