The Indiana Fever extended their winning streak to five games with a 101-95 victory over the Toronto Tempo on Tuesday night. Star guard Kelsey Mitchell led the charge with 29 points, while Caitlin Clark contributed 24 points.
Their combined scoring effort marked the 16th time this season that both Clark and Mitchell have scored at least 20 points in the same game, surpassing the previous WNBA record of 15 set by Diana Taurasi and Cappie Pondexter in 2008.
Mitchell's performance also tied her with A'ja Wilson for the longest streak in WNBA history with 20 consecutive games scoring 20 or more points. However, Mitchell left the game late in the third quarter and did not return, with head coach Stephanie White attributing it to her "getting overheated."
Aliyah Boston added 16 points for the Fever, and Sophie Cunningham chipped in 13 points, hitting all three of her three-point attempts. The Fever, who never trailed, have now won 10 of their last 12 games, while Toronto has lost 11 consecutive contests.
Toronto's Marina Mabrey attempted to narrow the gap with late three-pointers, but the Tempo could not overcome the deficit. In a moment of public attention, Sophie Cunningham, who has previously stated her opposition to transgender athletes in women's sports, received mixed reactions from the crowd upon entering the game, with some cheers and boos.
The Fever are scheduled to play the Dallas Wings on Thursday, while the Tempo will face the Washington Mystics on Wednesday.
