Celtic manager Martin O'Neill has been released from the hospital following a minor procedure, but his return to the team's sideline remains uncertain. Assistant manager Shaun Maloney stated that there is currently "no timeline" for O'Neill's comeback.
Maloney indicated that O'Neill's availability for upcoming matches, including Sunday's trip to Kilmarnock, will be determined on a day-to-day basis. "I'll speak to him this afternoon and then he'll make a call for tomorrow. And then I'd imagine he'll make the call for the game at the weekend," Maloney said. "But, if it's this weekend, great. If it isn't, then we'll prepare for it with that one."
Maloney acknowledged that O'Neill's absence would be felt, noting the significant impact the manager has had since taking charge in October. "The impact that he's had over, what was it, since October, it's been nothing short of incredible really - the things that he does with the players and the staff," Maloney said. "So we will miss him, but we'll be prepared."
Regarding potential new signings, Maloney did not anticipate any arrivals before Sunday's game. He clarified that such matters remain between O'Neill and chief executive Michael Nicholson. Maloney also mentioned awareness of interest in midfielder Arne Engels and right-back Alistair Johnston but expressed confidence they would be available for the Kilmarnock match.
