Spanish soccer player Jesus de Miguel died at the age of 30 due to "accidental chest trauma," according to the official pathologists' report. The determination follows a mid-game collision with a goalie that occurred on November 2, 2026, during a match in Spain's second soccer division. A funeral for de Miguel was held on Thursday in Spain.
De Miguel, who played for CD Tenerife, collided with FC Andorra goalkeeper Jesus Owono while competing for a loose ball. He was subsequently transported to a hospital and placed in intensive care.
The preliminary autopsy report indicated that the chest trauma was a "cause consistent with the player's death," as reported by The Sun.
The Canary Islands High Court of Justice confirmed that an autopsy had been performed, though further details remain confidential out of respect for the family's privacy. The court has authorized the transport of de Miguel's remains for burial.
CD Tenerife announced the player's passing on Tuesday morning, expressing profound sadness. "There are no words of comfort; there is absolutely nothing that can ease this profound sense of sadness. We stand with his devastated family, with his loved ones, and with the entire Tenerife football community, who today mourn this cruel turn of events," the club stated. The family of Jesus de Miguel expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support and requested privacy during this difficult time.
