Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark was assessed her seventh technical foul of the season during Wednesday night's game against the Connecticut Sun, bringing her closer to a one-game suspension. The infraction occurred late in the third quarter of the Fever's 123-88 victory.
Following a foul called on Connecticut's Olivia Nelson-Ododa, Sun player Saniya Rivers engaged in a verbal exchange with Clark. According to Clark, she responded to Rivers by saying "Scoreboard." Both players were subsequently given technical fouls by the officials. Clark stated after the game that the referee "didn't like that."
Clark, who finished the game with 27 points and 11 assists in 27 minutes, indicated that the potential for suspension would not alter her aggressive style of play. "I don't think I'm going to be playing with that in the back of my head," Clark said regarding the upcoming suspension. "I think just continue to try to control your emotions the best you can. That intensity and that fire is what makes me, me, but also knowing my team needs me and finding a good balance of that."
The Indiana Fever improved their season record to 17-10 with the win, placing them fifth in the WNBA standings. Clark is currently averaging 21 points and 7.9 assists per game. The Connecticut Sun fell to 7-20 on the season, with Diamond Miller leading the team with 15 points in the contest.
