Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever have once again driven record-breaking viewership for the WNBA. Their July 15 game against the Golden State Valkyries averaged 1.14 million viewers on USA Sports, marking the most-watched WNBA game in the network's history. This latest figure surpasses the previous record set by the same team just one week earlier.
This is the third time this season that a game featuring Clark and the Fever has attracted at least one million viewers on USA Sports. The trend began with their June 16 game against the Toronto Tempo. The July 8 matchup against the Los Angeles Sparks also achieved a significant milestone, becoming the first WNBA game with a 10 p.m. ET start to surpass one million viewers, averaging 1.04 million across USA Network and CNBC.
The audience for the Fever-Valkyries game represented a 172% increase compared to the 2025 WNBA cable average. It was also the second-most-watched WNBA game on cable or streaming this season and the top cable entertainment program on the night of its broadcast.
While the Indiana Fever's July 5 matchup against the Las Vegas Aces averaged 1.55 million viewers on ESPN, an event where neither Clark nor A'ja Wilson played, that game's success is seen by some as evidence of the Fever's appeal extending beyond Clark. However, the Indiana team's increased national television presence is largely attributed to the attention Clark generated upon her entry into the league. Prior to her arrival, the Fever did not achieve seven-figure cable audiences.
Clark's on-court performance has also contributed to the surge in attention. She was named Eastern Conference Player of the Week after averaging 25.0 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 7.7 assists. This included a 45-point, 10-assist performance against the Seattle Storm, a feat that made Clark the first player in WNBA history to record at least 40 points and 10 assists in a single game.
The WNBA's biggest overall audience of the season occurred on July 12, when the Fever's 109-75 victory over the Aces averaged 2.64 million viewers across NBC and Peacock. This game peaked at 2.8 million viewers, making it the most-watched WNBA game of 2026 and the league's most-watched regular-season Sunday game since 1998. It also became the second-most-watched regular-season game since 2000.
Despite a 88-75 loss to the Golden State Valkyries on July 15, in which Clark played through a leg contusion and shot 4-of-14 from the field, more than 1.1 million viewers tuned in. Before Clark's entry into the league, the WNBA had not seen a game average one million viewers in nearly 16 years. The USA Sports network is set to broadcast another Indiana Fever game on Wednesday, offering another opportunity for a potential viewership record.
Host of 'The Sage Steele Show' Sage Steele has commented on the league's handling of Clark, asserting that the WNBA's officiating is consistently poor, leading to numerous uncalled fouls against Clark and other players. Steele suggests this ongoing neglect risks alienating the WNBA's growing fanbase.
