Jos Buttler achieved a significant milestone in T20 cricket, surpassing Kieron Pollard's record of 14,803 runs during the Manchester Super Giants' dominant nine-wicket victory against Welsh Fire at Old Trafford.
Buttler reached the landmark by hitting three consecutive sixes off Duan Jansen. He concluded his innings with an unbeaten 51 runs from just 20 deliveries, finishing the match with two fours and six sixes, including the winning runs hit down the ground off Lockie Ferguson. He shared an unbroken partnership with Tim Seifert, who scored 62 from 36 balls, as the Super Giants chased down their target of 156 with 31 balls remaining.
Earlier, Welsh Fire captain Phil Salt won the toss and opted to bat, forming a strong opening partnership of 125 runs with Matt Short. Salt contributed 48 runs from 37 balls, while Short scored 71 from 47 deliveries, featuring 11 fours and five sixes between them. The partnership was broken when Salt was caught in the deep off Josh Tongue in the 83rd ball of the innings.
Following Salt's dismissal, Welsh Fire lost three more wickets for just 13 runs. Short was caught at long-on off Paul Walter, and Jordan Cox and Tom Kohler-Cadmore were also dismissed after finding boundary fielders off Gus Atkinson, leaving the team with a final score of 155-4.
The Manchester Super Giants' chase began with an aggressive 74-run opening stand from 35 balls between Seifert and Paul Walter. Walter, playing his first match of the tournament, scored 37 from 18 balls, including a sequence of five consecutive boundaries against Duan Jansen and Rachin Ravindra. Walter's aggressive innings ended when Ben Kellaway took a skillful catch on the mid-wicket rope.
The victory elevated the Manchester Super Giants to third place in the standings, four points behind second-placed Welsh Fire.
