Heather Watson and Harriet Dart are set to face each other for a place in the US Open main draw, as six British players have advanced to the final round of qualifying.

Watson, ranked world number 100, showed resilience in her match, recovering from a service break down to win the opening set and holding her nerve in the decider to defeat her opponent 6-4, 6-7 (7-4), 6-4. She will now meet fellow Briton Dart, who secured her spot with a 4-6, 6-4, 6-1 victory over another compatriot, Billy Harris. Dart, 23, is aiming to qualify for the US Open for the first time and made her Grand Slam debut at this year's French Open.

Another British hopeful, Liam Fearnley, 25, will face Austria's Jurij Rodionov after a 6-4, 6-7 (4-7), 6-4 win. In a lengthy three-hour contest, 24-year-old Billy Wendelken saved a match point to overcome Switzerland's Remy Bertola 5-7, 7-6 (7-4), 6-4. Wendelken, ranked 196th, will play Lithuania's Vilius Gaubas in the next round. He is seeking to reach the main draw of a major tournament overseas for the first time.

However, Katie Swan and Jack Pinnington Jones were unsuccessful in their qualifying matches. Swan lost to American Mary Stoiana 6-7 (5-7), 6-3, 6-3, while Pinnington Jones fell to Finland's Otto Virtanen 2-6, 7-6 (8-6), 6-3.

Elsewhere in the qualifying draw, former semi-finalist Grigor Dimitrov defeated Kazakhstan's Timofey Skatov 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 and will face Virtanen. China's Olympic champion Zheng Qinwen advanced with a 6-1, 7-5 win over France's Clara Burel and is scheduled to play Russia's Elena Pridankina. Bianca Andreescu, the 2019 US Open champion, defeated Ukraine's Veronika Podre 6-0, 6-3 and will face Slovenia's Tamara Zidansek.

In preparation for the US Open, Henry Fery reached the quarter-finals of the Winston-Salem Open, defeating Dutch qualifier Mees Rottgering 6-3, 6-3. Fery, who reached the Wimbledon semi-finals in July, will play American Aleksandar Kovacevic for a spot in the semi-finals.
