British boxer Raven Chapman, 32, is in recovery after sustaining a serious injury during sparring that required emergency brain surgery and a subsequent medically-induced coma. The incident occurred during a training session in Denmark on July 24.
Chapman collapsed following the session and was transported by air ambulance to a hospital. Doctors diagnosed a brain hematoma and cerebral edema. She underwent surgery to address the bleeding and swelling before being placed in the induced coma to aid her recovery.
Her team released an update stating that doctors have begun reducing her sedation as treatment continues. Plans are also underway to transfer Chapman to a hospital in the United Kingdom, where she is expected to undergo a lengthy rehabilitation.
"Doctors are doing everything they can to support her recovery, and we remain hopeful as she continues to fight through this incredibly difficult time," a statement from her team read. "Raven's family are in Denmark supporting her during this incredibly difficult time. We kindly ask that their privacy is respected."
A GoFundMe page has been established to support Chapman's rehabilitation and ongoing care. The fundraiser has already gathered over £46,000 towards its £80,000 target. Notable figures in the boxing community, including Nakisa Bidarian, Terri Harper, Ellie Scotney, and Skye Nicholson, have made contributions. Queensberry Promotions donated £20,000, and Eddie Hearn contributed £5,000.
Former promoter Frank Warren shared the fundraising appeal on social media, expressing his hope for Chapman's recovery and safe return home. Queensberry also issued a statement expressing devastation over the news and wishing for a full recovery.
Chapman, who hails from Norwich, has a professional boxing record of 10 wins and two defeats. In 2024, she challenged for the WBC featherweight world title, ultimately losing on points to Skye Nicholson in Riyadh.
