Brie Bella sustained a broken scapula during WWE's 2026 SummerSlam Night 1 on Saturday, August 1, 2026, and will be sidelined for an undisclosed period. The injury occurred during a six-woman tag-team match at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, where Bella and her partners Paige and Nikki Bella faced off against The Fatal Influence, comprised of Jacy Jayne, Fallon Henley, and Lainey Reid.
Bella, 42, announced the injury on social media, sharing X-ray images and a video from an ambulance gurney. "Unfortunately I’ll be out for a bit. I broke my scapula," she wrote. "I wanted to thank you all for sending me all the love and warm wishes. When I was sitting in the hospital, I was reading everything you guys were sending my way, love you all!!!"
She indicated that the injury would not deter her long-term career, stating, "If there’s one thing I know about my sister and I is that we don’t let broken bones stop us. Not sure how I finished that match, but I do believe between the adrenaline, passion for the business and the love for all the women I work with, it gave me the drive to finish."
Bella appeared to injure her shoulder when Jacy Jayne slammed her into the steel steps outside the ring. She continued to hold her shoulder for the remainder of the match and afterward. "Now my new journey starts!! [Son] Buddy said he’s going to be my assistant, [daughter] Birdie‘s going to be my nurse and they both told me that [husband, Bryan Danielson] daddy is going to be my personal chef, so I am set!! if there is one thing I know about Brie Mode, she always finds a way to come back to her wrestling home. Let the recovery begin."
Nikki Bella confirmed her twin sister was in significant pain. "She’s doing okay. She’s in a lot of pain," Nikki said during a live taping of WWE’s “Busted Open Radio” on Sunday. "They are still determining what is going on and Brie will share that whenever. I’ve been told to ‘zip it.'"
Nikki also commented on the severity of the injury, telling a fan that "it’s not looking good." Brie Bella did not attend a scheduled autograph session due to her condition.
WWE Chief Content Officer Triple H addressed the injury during a post-show press conference on Saturday, stating, "She’s injured. I don’t have an update yet. She was here, got some treatment here [and] has been taken to the hospital to get some scans done." He added, "I know [she] hurt her shoulder. Seems pretty bad, but I don’t have that answer yet. Hopefully, we will soon and hopefully it won’t be as bad as we thought it was, but that’s the nature of the game."
Nikki Bella, who recently returned to action after recovering from an ankle injury, had mentioned prior to SummerSlam that she was "close to the end" of her wrestling career.
