The legacy of Black Tiger, a storied name in professional wrestling, is being carried forward by its ninth incarnation, who is actively working to expand the character's reach in Major League Wrestling (MLW) and beyond. This latest performer, formerly known as Magnus, aims to honor the lineage of Black Tiger while forging his own path, representing both his current promotion, Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL), and New Japan Pro-Wrestling, where the character originated in the 1980s.
"It’s very important because it’s not just about me. It’s my company, CMLL, but I also have the opportunity to be Black Tiger," the wrestler told OutKick Dropkick. "At some point, I need to represent my culture, Lucha Libre in CMLL, but also I need to represent New Japan Pro-Wrestling."
He emphasized the importance of continuous training and dedication, acknowledging the weight of representing multiple entities. "I need to represent my company, my legacy, New Japan, all the Black Tigers since the very first Black Tiger like Mark Rocco, Eddie Guerrero. Big, big names in this business," he stated. "MLW, CMLL, New Japan, have a special place in my heart. I need to always be ready for the opportunity."
Currently holding the Mexican National Tag Team Championship in CMLL with his partner Rugido as part of the tag team Los Depredadores, Black Tiger recognizes the challenge of making the Black Tiger name a household one in the wrestling world. He has set his sights on global recognition, having already competed in the UK, Japan, and the United States, with aspirations for Canada and Australia.
"I just want to make the name bigger. The last Black Tigers are good wrestlers – Rocky Romero, Eddie Guerrero – but maybe they have a bigger name not as Black Tiger. Maybe as Black Tiger, they only work in Japan. But for me, I would like to be around the world with this name," he explained. "I’m sure I’m going to make it – little by little, step by step."
Recognizing that not all wrestling fans are familiar with the deep lore of Japanese wrestling or Lucha Libre, the current Black Tiger intends to showcase elements of the character's history while also establishing his unique style. "Sometimes, in some matches, just get the style of the first Black Tiger, sometimes the No. 3 Black Tiger and also, at some point, for sure, I need to explain to the world who I am. My own style," he said.
Before his current run as Black Tiger, the wrestler, under the name Magnus, had previous appearances in MLW, including participating in the 2025 Battle Riot and briefly holding the MLW Tag Team Championship. His upcoming appearance is at MLW's Saturday Night SuperFight, where he and Ultimo Guerrero will face Templario and Titan in a tag team match. The event will be available on Veeps, starting at 8 p.m. ET.
