Rookie outfielder Carson Benge extended his hitting streak with a three-hit performance and drove in a run with a triple off the fence as the New York Mets secured a 13-6 win against the Cleveland Guardians on Thursday. Benge’s performance marked his ninth three-hit game this season, the most on the team.

"He’s doing a good job shooting the ball to all parts of the ballpark right now," said interim manager Andy Green. "Professional at-bats. It’s like he’s been around for a while now instead of just four months, so it’s a good start to a career."

Benge’s 112 hits rank third among rookies this season. He had homered in the previous two games of the series.

Luis Torrens also contributed to the Mets' offense, hitting his second home run in three days. Torrens finished the series with seven RBIs, the highest total for a Mets player in a three-game series this season and the most since Juan Soto had seven against the Tigers in September of the previous year. All four of Torrens’ home runs this season have been go-ahead blasts.

The Mets’ nine home runs in the series were their second-highest total in a three-game set this season, following a 10-homer performance against the Cubs in June.

In relief, Nate Lavender pitched a scoreless sixth inning with two strikeouts for his second consecutive scoreless outing to begin his major league career. Kodai Senga also appeared in a high-leverage situation, pitching a scoreless seventh inning and reaching 100 mph on his fastball. Closer Devin Williams was available but not needed due to the large lead.
