Belgium midfielder Youri Tielemans was scratched from the starting lineup in the World Cup quarterfinals against Spain after sustaining an injury during pregame warmups.

Hans Vanaken replaced Tielemans in the starting lineup. Tielemans, who captains the Belgian team, is a significant player for both offense and defense. He scored two goals in Belgium's 3-2 victory over Senegal in the round of 32.

Vanaken previously came on as a substitute and scored a goal in Belgium's 4-1 win against the U.S. He had replaced Amadou Onana, who is out for the remainder of the World Cup due to a torn knee ligament. Belgium is also without defender Zeno Debast, who is sidelined with a leg injury.

Kevin De Bruyne returned to Belgium's lineup for the match against Spain after resting during the game against the United States.
