Los Angeles Lakers guard Austin Reaves received news of his four-year, $185 million contract offer while playing golf, according to social media posts from his girlfriend, Jenna Barber.
Barber shared images on her Instagram Stories on Wednesday showing Reaves on a golf course reacting to the news. In one photo, Reaves is seen lying down near a fairway bunker with his hands over his head, appearing to be in disbelief. Another post featured a photoshopped image of Reaves surrounded by money with the headline "$185M / 4YR." Barber captioned the image, "Our place!!!" and added purple heart emojis.
The Lakers guard's future with the team had been uncertain prior to this announcement. Reaves had declined his $14.9 million player option, making him an unrestricted free agent next month. This new deal ensures he will remain with the Lakers for the foreseeable future. The contract is reportedly the richest ever for an undrafted player.
Reaves joined the Lakers in 2021 and experienced a breakout season in 2022, averaging 13 points per game. In his last two seasons, he has averaged over 20 points and five assists per contest.
