Los Angeles Lakers guard Austin Reaves, fresh off signing a $185 million contract extension, indicated that his spending habits will remain unchanged. Reaves, who avoided free agency by agreeing to a new four-year deal with the Lakers late last month, told The California Post in an exclusive interview that he does not plan to make extravagant purchases like flashy cars or jewelry.
Instead, Reaves stated that his earnings will be directed towards investments. "All my stuff goes into investments," Reaves said. "and hopefully I can set my family up for generations to come."
He admitted to not being deeply involved in the specifics of his financial planning, relying on advisors for guidance. Reaves mentioned a past investment in SpaceX, which proved profitable, but reiterated his hands-off approach. "I just let [financial advisors] take care of it and hopefully they make me some money," he said.
Reaves was on a golf course when he learned of his contract extension and described crumpling to the ground in relief. He also stated that his competitive mindset on the golf course will not change despite the new contract. "I still mentally cuss myself after every shot if it’s bad," Reaves said. "Nothing’s changed. My life is still the same."
