Luka Dončić scored 40 points, grabbed nine rebounds, and dished out seven assists in the Los Angeles Lakers' 116-103 victory against the Sacramento Kings on Wednesday. This marked Dončić's fifth 40-point game in his last six outings.
Despite the impressive scoring, teammate Austin Reaves joked about Dončić's performance. "He could’ve had 60 if he weren’t asleep in the first quarter," Reaves said, referencing Dončić's 10 points on 2-of-7 shooting in the initial 12 minutes of the game.
Dončić, who is leading the league with an average of 38.5 points, 8.1 rebounds, and eight assists per game, has been a driving force behind the Lakers' 7-2 start to the season and is generating early MVP buzz. Reaves, who contributed 21 points in the win, acknowledged Dončić's consistent excellence, noting his history of high-scoring performances, including a 73-point game in January 2024.
Dončić and Reaves are known to be close friends and were previously highlighted as the NBA's highest-scoring duo.
