The 2027 AFC Asia Cup has been postponed until December 2027 due to escalating safety concerns and logistical complexities arising from the Middle East crisis. The tournament, originally scheduled to begin in January 2027, will now run from December 23, 2027, to January 21, 2028. The new dates will be presented to FIFA for approval.

The postponement comes after a significant re-escalation of the Houthi-Saudi Arabia conflict, which has led to reduced services at major Saudi airports. An earlier missile attack on Riyadh's airport resulted in casualties, raising serious safety concerns for the tournament. The Asian Football Confederation stated that the "current exceptional circumstances" necessitated the delay to ensure the well-being of participating teams, officials, spectators, and stakeholders.

This marks the second consecutive Asia Cup to be postponed, following the 2023 edition which was delayed by a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The current delay is also expected to be a "huge boost" to Premier League clubs, who will no longer face losing players for a month of their domestic season.

Several other major events in Saudi Arabia have also been affected by the regional instability, including the indefinite postponement of the PIF-backed Saudi International golf tournament and the cancellation of the Six Kings Slam tennis exhibition featuring top players like Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic.
