Defending champion Arsenal began its Premier League title defense with a decisive 3-0 victory over promoted Coventry on Friday. The match, which marked Coventry's return to the top flight after a 25-year absence, saw Arsenal asserting dominance from the outset.

Kai Havertz opened the scoring in the 15th minute, converting a pass from Riccardo Calafiori, who was set up by newcomer Christos Tzolis. Tzolis, a summer signing, also played a role in Arsenal's second goal in the 23rd minute when his cross was parried by Coventry goalkeeper Carl Rushworth, allowing Bukayo Saka to score into an empty net.

Martin Odegaard extended Arsenal's lead shortly after halftime with a looped shot that found the back of the net. The Gunners had further opportunities to increase their margin of victory throughout the match.

Coventry struggled to create significant chances against Arsenal's defense. The visitors' only notable effort on target came in the 86th minute with a header from Jack Rudoni, which goalkeeper David Raya saved. A speculative overhead kick from Loum Tchaouna in the 42nd minute sailed just high of the bar.

Arsenal also announced the signing of defender Ezri Konsa from Aston Villa prior to the match.
