Arsenal and Liverpool are set for a tribunal after failing to agree on compensation for 16-year-old prospect Vincent Joseph. The highly-rated striker recently departed Liverpool, turning down a scholarship offer despite interest from several prominent clubs, including Manchester United, Chelsea, Bayern Munich, and Borussia Dortmund.

Arsenal, the reigning Premier League champions, have secured the signature of the young forward. However, discussions with Liverpool regarding a transfer fee have stalled, leading to the dispute being escalated to a tribunal to determine the compensation owed to Liverpool.

This situation echoes a previous case involving Liverpool and Chelsea. In February, a tribunal ruled that Liverpool must pay Chelsea £2.8 million, potentially rising to £4 million with add-ons, for the transfer of Rio Ngumoha. Ngumoha, an England international regarded as the best in his age group at Chelsea, moved to Liverpool in September 2024, believing it offered a better pathway to first-team football. He signed his first professional contract with Liverpool a year later and went on to score on his Premier League debut at 16 years and 361 days, becoming Liverpool's youngest Premier League goalscorer.

The competition for emerging young talent has intensified in recent years. Liverpool successfully retained 16-year-old winger Josh Abe this summer, fending off interest from Manchester City and potentially Real Madrid. They also secured attacking midfielder Erik Farkas despite competition from Manchester City, Manchester United, and clubs in Germany and Spain. These high-stakes pursuits highlight the increasing financial and competitive pressures in securing promising young players.

The tribunal for Vincent Joseph will aim to establish a fair compensation figure for Liverpool, similar to the seven-figure sum Liverpool received from Newcastle United when Isaac Moran, a 17-year-old England youth international, moved to the Magpies earlier this year after the clubs failed to agree on terms.
