The highly anticipated boxing match between Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury, dubbed the 'Battle of Britain,' remains in jeopardy as Joshua has not yet signed the bout agreement, according to promoter Frank Warren. Warren indicated that the contract needed to be finalized by this weekend.
Tyson Fury signed his contract in January and is currently training in Miami, reportedly unconcerned about the fight's location. Initially, the agreement stipulated the fight would take place in England, with Wembley Stadium a potential venue. However, broadcast paymasters Netflix, in conjunction with Saudi partners, are now insisting on Madison Square Garden in New York City to maximize U.S. revenue.
Joshua requires a minimum two-month training camp for a fight of this magnitude, with an ideal duration of nine to ten weeks. He was given a 10-day window to agree to terms on August 26, which has now passed. Warren previously warned that if Joshua did not commit by the end of the following week, the fight could be lost, as many significant bouts have been in the past.
"At some point everyone has to say the most important thing is that it happens. Not this bulls[][] about money," Warren stated, questioning Joshua's desire to fight. He also alluded to Joshua's past personal tragedy, suggesting only Joshua knows his true intentions.
