Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana has finalized terms on a one-year loan agreement with Turkish club Trabzonspor, sources revealed. The deal is expected to be completed within the next 24 hours, allowing Onana to spend a second consecutive season with the Turkish side.

Trabzonspor will pay Manchester United a loan fee of up to £1.3 million, contingent on the team's performance, and will cover the majority of Onana's wages. The agreement does not include an option for Trabzonspor to purchase the player permanently next summer.

Onana initially joined Trabzonspor last September after it became apparent he did not feature in Manchester United's long-term plans. The move followed the arrival of Senne Lammens at Old Trafford. During his previous loan spell, the 30-year-old Cameroon international was instrumental in helping Trabzonspor secure the Turkish Cup in May. Reports last month indicated Trabzonspor's interest in retaining Onana, with a further loan being the most probable outcome.

While a permanent transfer would have allowed Manchester United to recoup some of the approximately £47.2 million paid to Inter Milan in the summer of 2023, the new loan avoids the potential difficulty of reintegrating Onana into the squad for pre-season training.

Onana, who still maintains a residence near Manchester, has two years remaining on his contract with United. However, the club has opted not to bring him back to compete with Lammens, who has established himself as the team's primary goalkeeper. Lammens' £21.7 million transfer from Royal Antwerp was recognized as the Premier League's top transfer of the previous season. Manchester United may seek a new backup goalkeeper if Altay Bayindir departs. The club has already extended the contract of veteran goalkeeper Tom Heaton by one year.
