Amy Hunt of Great Britain completed a sprint double at the European Championships by winning the 200-meter final on August 13, 2026, in Birmingham. The 24-year-old sprinter's victory in the 200m, with a time of 22.19 seconds, followed her earlier triumph in the 100-meter race. Hunt is aiming for a total of four gold medals at the championships.

Dina Asher-Smith, who won the 100m and 200m double eight years prior, finished with the bronze medal in this 200m race. Although Asher-Smith had a stronger start, Hunt overtook her in the final stretch. Ireland's Rhasidat Adeleke secured the silver medal with a national record of 22.28 seconds. This bronze medal marks Asher-Smith's ninth European Championship medal.

Hunt expressed her satisfaction, stating, "Two out of four baby." She noted that while the 100m is more challenging mentally, the 200m is the most physically demanding. Hunt mentioned experiencing health issues throughout the year that made the 200m distances daunting, sometimes leading to near-fainting spells. She credited her coach and focused on her own race strategy, avoiding getting caught up in her competitors' performances.

"This is becoming a magical week and one I will remember for the rest of my life," Hunt said. She indicated that any celebrations would be postponed until Sunday night, emphasizing her commitment to the relay events. "We have got to come out here and make sure we show them who the best sprinting nation is in Europe," she added.
