Amy Hunt, the British sprinter who secured four gold medals at the recent European Championships in Birmingham, plans to take an extended break to spend time with her family. Hunt, who won the 100m and 200m individual titles and was part of the victorious women's and mixed 4x100m relay teams, described her intention to "hibernate for eight weeks" after the conclusion of the athletics season.
The 24-year-old Cambridge University graduate celebrated her achievements with a glass of champagne alongside her coach, Marco Airale. Despite her celebratory plans, Hunt is scheduled to continue competing in the remaining weeks of the Diamond League season, with the World Ultimate Championships in Budapest at the end of September also on her agenda.
"It’s important to celebrate the wins when they happen and live in the moment," Hunt told Sky Sports News. "You don’t win four golds often. It’s been euphoric. I’ve been living in dreamland this whole week, especially at home with great crowd support."
Hunt expressed pride in competing for Great Britain, stating, "I have such a pride in competing for Great Britain on a Great British stage. We really put the great in Great Britain."
Regarding her approach to competition, she added, "Any time you line up at a race, you have to believe you’ll win no matter what. It’s a very dog eat dog world so you have to have that confidence on the start line."
Her planned break will involve spending time at home with her family, including her sister, who recently qualified as a nurse. "My way of switching off is spending time with my family," Hunt said. "I’m so lucky that I train out of Italy in Padova but I don’t get to see my family too often."
Hunt's coach, Marco Airale, has allocated an eight-week off-period for his athletes, a move Hunt described as "benevolent."
