JJ Williams marked his first start for Hearts with a goal and an assist, helping the Scottish club to a convincing 3-0 victory over Stenhousemuir and a place in the Premier Sports Cup semi-finals.

The American forward, who joined Hearts from Rhode Island just over two weeks ago, opened the scoring in the 35th minute after reacting quickest to a loose ball inside the penalty area. He then provided the assist for the third goal in the 74th minute, heading the ball back across goal for substitute Yan Dhanda to tap in.

Hearts dominated the match against their Championship opponents. They should have taken the lead within the opening 20 seconds when Tomas Magnusson found Sabri Guendouz, whose header went wide from close range. Stenhousemuir had a chance in the ninth minute through Kinlay Bilham, but he blazed over.

Hearts extended their lead just before halftime. Rogers Mato coolly slotted home after being played in by a precise pass from Guendouz. Stenhousemuir goalkeeper Darren Jamieson made a crucial save in the 60th minute to deny Mato a second goal from a corner.

Wouter Vrancken's Hearts team, who were unbeaten this season before this tie, displayed a high level of performance, ultimately proving too strong for the part-time Stenhousemuir side. The victory ensures Hearts progress to the cup semi-finals.
