Alvin Kamara, the New Orleans Saints' all-time leading rusher, is finalizing a reworked contract that will keep him with the team for the 2026 season, his agent confirmed Wednesday.

"Alvin’s goal, and the team’s goal, was for him to remain with the Saints and retire a Saint," agent Brad Cicala told NFL Network.

The specific terms of the new deal were not immediately clear. Kamara was previously under contract with a cap hit of approximately $10.4 million for the 2026 season.

His future with the team had been a subject of speculation following the Saints' acquisition of fellow running back Travis Etienne on a four-year, $48 million contract this offseason. Etienne joined New Orleans after rushing for 1,107 yards and seven touchdowns with Jacksonville last season.

Kamara, 30, did not participate in voluntary workouts but attended mandatory minicamp. He previously stated that there was no "bad blood" with the organization regarding his contract situation. "On my side, I feel no beef or bad blood," Kamara told reporters in June. "I’m going to do what I do every year. Working … I’m going to do what I do every year. I’m going to train and be ready and we’ll see what happens."

Head coach Kellen Moore expressed optimism about utilizing both Kamara and Etienne. "I think both of them have the explosive, elusive ability to play in all three phases, which is beneficial," Moore said in March. "I feel like our running back room is a really healthy room right now — with just the depth and the experience and all the guys that are in there."

Last season, Kamara played in 11 games, recording career lows in rushing yards with 657 and one touchdown due to a knee sprain. Prior to that, he had largely been healthy, appearing in at least 13 games in each of his first eight NFL seasons. A five-time Pro Bowl selection, Kamara has surpassed 1,400 yards from scrimmage in four different seasons.

Kamara had indicated in October that his preference was to remain with the Saints, stating he would rather "go drink a pina colada somewhere" than play for another team. This new contract ensures he will continue his career in New Orleans.
