Alex de Minaur described himself as "broken inside" following his unexpected exit from Wimbledon's fourth round, an outcome that has cast a shadow over his pursuit of a maiden Grand Slam singles title.

The fifth-seeded Australian fell to the No. 9 seed, Flavio Cobolli, in straight sets, with the final score reading 7-5, 7-6 (4), 6-3. This defeat marks the end of what de Minaur considered one of his most significant opportunities to advance to a Grand Slam semifinal.

"I won’t be playing a tournament for a while. But then again, they keep piling up," de Minaur said in his post-match press conference. "The goals, the belief, the dreams you have start fading away or feeling a little bit further out of reach than they once were."

De Minaur expressed a sense of drifting away from his aspirations. "I feel like a couple years ago I was definitely closer. Now I just feel like I’m drifting a little further away from those dreams. It’s getting harder and harder. That’s the reality."

The match saw a pivotal moment in the second set when de Minaur held a 5-2 lead, only for Cobolli to rally and secure the set, ultimately taking a two-set advantage. De Minaur's performance on serve was also noted, with commentator Todd Woodbridge observing a lack of aggression and a struggle with his first serve percentage, which hovered around 50% for the match.

Cobolli, who reached his first Grand Slam final at the French Open last month, now advances to his second consecutive Wimbledon quarterfinal. De Minaur's best performance at a major tournament this year was reaching the quarterfinals of the Australian Open, where he was defeated by the eventual champion Carlos Alcaraz.
