Adam Ramsay-Peaty's return to Commonwealth Games competition was briefly disrupted by a malfunctioning lane divider in his 100m breaststroke heat. The delay, which lasted approximately 10 minutes, occurred as the swimmer was preparing to start.

A lane line broke and its fixing sank to the bottom of the pool, prompting a volunteer to enter the water and resolve the issue. Despite the unusual circumstances, Ramsay-Peaty maintained his focus and recorded the fastest time of the heats, qualifying for the semi-finals with a time of 59.46 seconds.

This marks Ramsay-Peaty's fourth Commonwealth Games appearance. He has previously won four gold and three silver medals at the event, with his debut in 2014. He is also scheduled to compete in the 50m breaststroke event. The swimmer, who has adopted his wife Holly's surname, described the Games as a 'full circle moment' as he aims to re-establish his dominance in the sport.

Earlier in his career, Ramsay-Peaty experienced a period of withdrawal from events in 2023 to focus on his mental health, crediting his Christian faith for his recovery. His performance in the 100m at the 2014 Games initiated a long period of success in the event, though a fourth-place finish in Birmingham four years ago marked a rare setback.

Holly Ramsay, wife of the swimmer and daughter of celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay, shared her support for her husband on social media, posting about his new 'Ramsay-Peaty' swimming cap. The couple is expecting their first child. Notably, Ramsay-Peaty's parents did not attend his December wedding and are reportedly estranged from him, a situation that has also extended to his sister. The decision to use the double-barrelled Ramsay-Peaty surname for the Games has been interpreted as a further point of contention for his estranged family.
